23 Year-Old Jazz Singer Sophie Milman Scores #1 On iTunes USA (week of May 8, 2006)
Russian-born Singer’s Self-titled Album Is the Breakthrough Jazz album of the Year in Canada.
May 20, 2006 — Sophie Milman’s self-titled debut album, released on March 21 in the US, is currently #1 on the iTunes Top Jazz Album chart and #15 on the Billboard Top Jazz Album chart. The jazz newcomer’s album has been building steadily since its release earlier in Canada where it has sold over 15,000 copies, and was one of the Top 5 jazz albums of the past year according to Nielsen Soundscan, right alongside international stars Diana Krall, Michael Bublé and Madeleine Peyroux.
Sophie Milman is a 23-year-old Russian born Israeli singer who is on her way to becoming an international jazz sensation. Headlining sold out 500+ capacity venues on her first tour last summer, Sophie and her band performed at every major Canadian jazz festival, including the prestigious Festival International Du Jazz Du Montreal - which sold out two months in advance. She was also nominated for a Juno Award for Best Vocal Jazz Recording.
The beautiful and critically acclaimed jazz singer has graced the cover of New York’s Forward newspaper, Voir Magazine in Montreal, Lifestyles Magazine and Klublife Magazine in Toronto. She is also a full time University of Toronto commerce student and is fluent in four languages. Sophie Milman promoted the US release of her self-titled debut at a sold-out show in New York at the famed Joe’s Pub on February 22, 2006. She has summer dates planned throughout the US and parts of Canada.
