ASCAP Freezes Royalties on Song “You Got The Right One Baby, Uh Huh”
Arthur Takeall of Annapolis, Maryland today announced that he has been notified by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) that in response to Takeall’s notification of ownership of the copyright of “You Got the Right One Baby, Uh Huh™”, ASCAP has frozen future royalty payments to the ASCAP-registered song writers, Peter Cofield and Al Merrin. The song was made famous during PepsiCo’s 1991 advertising campaign featuring Ray Charles.

The song was made famous during PepsiCo’s 1991 advertising campaign featuring Ray Charles.
ASCAP has frozen royalty payments to Cofield and Merrin as of the week of June 5, 2006 in response to Takeall’s presentation of proof of ownership of the song through registration number PA-1-238-534 with the US Patent and Trademark Office.
Peter Cofield is an independent songwriter who worked with BBD&O New York during 1990 when the advertising agency was creating the Diet Pepsi campaign. Al Merrin is now vice chairman and executive creative director for BBD&O Worldwide, and served as creative director for the Diet Pepsi advertising campaign that featured “You Got the Right One Baby, Uh Huh.”

Takeall began performing ventriloquism professionally in 1963 Maryland before continuing on to Europe in 1965 while on active duty in the US Air Force. After being Honorably Discharged from the service, Takeall returned to the US and enjoyed a career that included employment at more than 30 radio stations in 18 states. Takeall and Scooter have performed in night clubs, joined major concert tours, have been featured on radio and television, experienced theater on stage, headlining or sharing headlines in major showrooms of Las Vegas, Nevada. The vocal duo often opened and performed with acts including (but not limited to) Redd Foxx, Tony Orlando, The Chi-Lites, Muhammad Ali, Donna Summers, The Coasters, James Brown, Eddie Kendricks, and others. Takeall was also former spokesperson for the Reagan Administration’s anti-drug campaign. Takeall’s slogan “You Got The Right One” was repeatedly used throughout Takeall’s radio career and in live or rebroadcast performances during the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and continued into the 21st Century.
