A Viking Long Ship Will Sail on the Scioto River
Friday April 28, 2006
Ashville, OH — The Lost Vikings Hoard will once again be sponsoring The Ashville Viking Festival. This year’s festival will see the return of the Norseman with their 40 foot replica of a Viking Long Ship. The ship will sail on the Scioto River north of the O’Shaunessy Dam on Friday April 28th, the day before the festival. The ship will then be taken to the Ashville Village Park for the two day festival.
The festival while first and foremost is a Viking Reenactment; it has expanded into the largest timeline event in the area. Re-enactors include Viking, Roman, 15th century German Landsknecht, American Civil War, An Artillery Battery from the War of 1812, 10th century Irish, English Civil War and others to be confirmed.
There will be ‘period’ themed food, merchants vending hand crafted period goods, Living History Demonstrations, Historical Games to play, and Entertainment geared to the whole family.
Re-enactor coordinator Ed Vallette stated “This is hands on history. You learn so much more when you see it right before you, when you are an active part.”
The festival is open to the public, starting each day at 10AM and running until 5PM. It is free to the public. Canned food donations to the Ashville Food pantry will be accepted.
