Four-Time Grammy-Winning Blind Boys of Alabama to Perform at Atlanta’s Botanical Gardens
The Blind Boys of Alabama will perform at Atlanta’s Botanical Gardens on Wednesday, August 9, following their summer tour kick-off in Utah, performances in major U.S. Cities, Austria and Europe.
Atlanta, GA — The Blind Boys of Alabama took home the Traditional Gospel Album of the Year honor for their current release, “Atom Bomb,” at this year’s annual GMA Music Awards (formerly Dove Awards) recently held at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, TN. That makes five consecutive albums that have been awarded Grammy’s and or GMA Music Awards in the last five years.
This legendary group will perform at Atlanta’s Botanical Gardens on Wednesday, August 9, following their summer tour kick-off in Utah, performances in major U.S. Cities, Austria and Europe. The tour repertoire includes selections from their latest album ‘Atom Bomb’ as well as uplifting traditional gospel favorites.

The Grammy-winning legends have joined Natalie Merchant, Nick Cave, the Kronos Quartet and others on ‘Catch That Train!” – Dane Zane’s first children’s album since his Grammy-nominated “House Party.” The band joins Dan on a soulful recording of “Welcome Table.”
Mojo and Rolling Stone magazines have touted ‘Atom Bomb” the Blind Boys’ “best” and “most adventurous” album yet respectively. Parade magazine said “The Blind Boys of Alabama have never been hipper…” and The New Yorker raves, “…soul-stirring…gut wrenching.” The band is also interviewed in issues of both Guideposts and American Profile magazines.
Atlanta can be proud of its own Eric “Ricky” McKinnie, drummer/vocalist and tour manager for the group who continues to represent our city well as he brings his own unique musical style and artistry to the music and leadership to the group. Eric recently performed with other Atlanta recording artists on Atlanta’s theme song “Every day is an opening day in Atlanta.”
