Montreal Bands Continue to Break Big In New York City
Montreal-based Rock Band The Peaks Perform A 7:00PM Set on June 28th 2006 At Arlenes Grocery on the Lower East Side
New York, NY June 9, 2006 — On June 28th at 7:00PM, Arlene’s Grocery will host The Peaks, the latest cutting edge band from Montreal. This four member band is coming to town with a new release under their belt entitled “Out of the Box”(on Burst Records in Canada and distributed by Universal) which is soon to be charting at Triple A radio and will soon be hitting the UK market in July, 2006. The Peaks are; Jeremie Benjamin (guitar, vocals), Matthew Street (keyboards, piano) Rick Scott (bass), Buck David (drums).
Their climb out of Montreal has been the typical road of any band making their way to New York. The Peaks had to create their own buzz; they flyered, they chatted up people, they wrote, they played. The Peaks are about getting their music to people who care. Each step reveals that they’ve chosen to work with the people who dig what they do and let them do it. “It’s tough to break in New York and it’s tough for us,” said Mattew Street, keyboardist. “A lot of bands can lose steam and we just … keep faith. Our fans keep turning their friends on to our stuff, it’s always a word of mouth thing”.
The Peaks will be heading down to Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and Virgina for several one night gigs. They are then taking a detour through Boston and Rochester for one night shows in both cities before returning to Canada to play in a festival in Montreal on July 16th. After that they are off to London for a series of dates and some overnight gigs in Liverpool, Bath, Glasgow and Edinborough.
