Four-Time Grammy-Winning Blind Boys of Alabama to Perform at Atlanta’s Botanical Gardens
The Blind Boys of Alabama will perform at Atlanta’s Botanical Gardens on Wednesday, August 9, following their summer tour kick-off in Utah, performances in major U.S. Cities, Austria and Europe.
Atlanta, GA — The Blind Boys of Alabama took home the Traditional Gospel Album of the Year honor for their current release, “Atom Bomb,” at this year’s annual GMA Music Awards (formerly Dove Awards) recently held at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, TN. That makes five consecutive albums that have been awarded Grammy’s and or GMA Music Awards in the last five years.
This legendary group will perform at Atlanta’s Botanical Gardens on Wednesday, August 9, following their summer tour kick-off in Utah, performances in major U.S. Cities, Austria and Europe. The tour repertoire includes selections from their latest album ‘Atom Bomb’ as well as uplifting traditional gospel favorites.
The Grammy-winning legends have joined Natalie Merchant, Nick Cave, the Kronos Quartet and others on ‘Catch That Train!” – Dane Zane’s first children’s album since his Grammy-nominated “House Party.” The band joins Dan on a soulful recording of “Welcome Table.”
Mojo and Rolling Stone magazines have touted ‘Atom Bomb” the Blind Boys’ “best” and “most adventurous” album yet respectively. Parade magazine said “The Blind Boys of Alabama have never been hipper…” and The New Yorker raves, “…soul-stirring…gut wrenching.” The band is also interviewed in issues of both Guideposts and American Profile magazines.
Atlanta can be proud of its own Eric “Ricky” McKinnie, drummer/vocalist and tour manager for the group who continues to represent our city well as he brings his own unique musical style and artistry to the music and leadership to the group. Eric recently performed with other Atlanta recording artists on Atlanta’s theme song “Every day is an opening day in Atlanta.”

Keep Your Eyes And Ears On Baltimore MD For Greg Who?
For all the funky fans in Baltimore who enjoyed Greg Coleman’s performances in the 70’s & 80’s. The wait will soon be over, to hear from Dr. Funk Again.
August 2, 2006 — Baltimore Born, Funk/Rock/Guitarist/Composer: Greg Coleman, is determined to become the next major national act, from a city that rarely experiences such national success with it’s local artist.
One of Baltimore Maryland’s Best Kept Musical Secrets, Greg Coleman said that he wanted to keep it that way, until he had the support system in place, that would allow him to promote his projects into national prominence where he feels they belong. And now that he has this system in place, he is ready to release his new debut cd entitled: “Smooth Like You Like It!”
This is Greg Coleman’s anthem to the smooth jazz genre, which he considers to be the greatest ear relief on radio for adult contemporary music listeners in over 26 years.
The entire cd was written, produced, arranged, and performed in it’s entirety by this Native Baltimorean, with the exception of 1 Stevie Wonder Song, arranged for guitar by Greg Coleman.
Greg Coleman states: “This press release is for all who are interested in quality adult contemporary music, which despite the changing trends, has been, and will always be my passion. I do not, and will not, produce and distribute music to the listening public that I would not purchase and listen to myself; so I am true to what I do.”

King, president of Clubfurniture.com. “The challenges contestants face on Catalog This! reflect situations we have all experienced, and that is part of the reason the show is so compelling. The Award Winning Independent Film “Love Trap” Hits Hollywood
The 2006 Hollywood Black Film Festival (the annual mecca for the Black Hollywood creative community) has invited the critically acclaimed feature film Love Trap to screen in competition for this year’s Best Feature Film Award.
May 18, 2006 — The 2006 Hollywood Black Film Festival (the annual mecca for the Black Hollywood creative community) has invited the critically acclaimed feature film Love Trap to screen in competition for this year’s Best Feature Film Award.
It is noteworthy that the film will come to HBFF having already won seven festivals to date, including four Best Feature Film Awards from other film festivals across the nation. This is the first feature film written, produced and directed by Florida film-maker Frank B. Goodin, II a brilliant storyteller, and great addition to the industry as his film has been nationally recognized as an outstanding example of black independent cinema.
The film screens on Saturday, June 17 at 9:00pm at the Harmony Gold Preview House (7655 Sunset Boulevard).
Several distribution companies have indicated that they will be on hand to take a look at what Film Finance Guru Brenda Z. Doby, Vice President, Senior Account Relationship Manager, Union Bank, Beverly Hills, California praised as a riveting film. She commended the film for its uniqueness, its issues, and the overall storyline. Moreover, Ms. Doby told attendees at the 2005 Houston Black Film Festival Awards Gala, “When I saw the film, I knew I had to make a phone call.” Vanessa Morman, festival founder and executive director stated, “I”m thrilled for the entire cast and crew. It’s a quality piece of work that captivates the audience. I watched in amazement during the screening as they were drawn into the flashback told story. It was so well directed, which explains Mr. Goodin II receiving the Best Director Award.”
Tyler Perry has already demonstrated quite clearly the box-office power of black dramas that balance comedy and spirituality. Love Trap is a much more polished blend of these elements and more. According to Goodin: Love Trap is simply the kind of film we all say we want to see a positive, entertaining black film that’s free of negative stereotypes and full of truth and inspiration. “I”m so excited to see young people doing this type of positive thing as this film which shows a more positive side of our young black men,” said a festival attendee, Mary Eggleston. “Love Trap” blends spirituality, trust and deep messages meant to dispel negative stereotypes about our young black men. It”s excitable. It’s dimensional, It’s about integrity!
Those who have already seen the film at other festivals all attest to the film’s power as consistently noted on several websites, such as http://www.divaskeepingitreal.com/page10.html or http://press.arrivenet.com/entertainment/article.php/662836.html.
Festival Awards garnered are, Best Feature Film Independent Black Film Festival (Atlanta) February 2005, Best Feature Film San Francisco Black Film Festival June 2005, Best Feature Film Houston Black Film Festival June 2005. Best Feature Film Urban Mediamakers Film Festival October 2005, Best Director Houston Black Film Festival June 2005, Best Actor Houston Black Film Festival June 2005, Audience Choice Award Houston Black Film Festival June 2005.

K-DEF Presents Willie Boo Boo “The Fool”
Golden age Hip-Hop DJ/Producer K-DEF, releases debut instrumental album.
— Ghetto Man Beats LLC in association with Red Line Music Distribution Inc.
K-DEF presents Willie Boo Boo “The Fool” (July 16, 2006)
Golden era Hip-Hop DJ/Producer K-DEF has orchestrated funky, energetic, cinematic; and suspenseful beats for a myriad of hip-hop artists. This time, he chose to channel his talents into Willie Boo Boo “The Fool”, his debut instrumental album. Full of thick, bass laden beats; this album features 42 tracks, meant to make heads nod. A moody and uplifting offering, “The Fool” gives you heavy doses of harsh reality and beautiful lush sounds.
The album presents a welcoming alternative to the repetitive sounds
used today, in Hip-Hop music. “This album is really a project grown
out of frustration of having to deal with corporate bigwigs, who have
placed restrictive formats on our culture. These formats can constrict
creative ideas for a new or established artist. The musical platelet
of Hip-Hop has really run dry, you can’t expect classic material, if
recording artists are only receiving lifeless tracks from unskilled
producers.”
K-DEF knows he can remain relevant and help turn the tide. This album is his first offering of a wealth of new material, he’s been compiling.
Look out for a second instrumental opus, and full-length album with
former “The Artifacts” member El Da Sensei. K-Def will be contributing tracks to P-Diddy’s new album ‘Press Play’ and the
Marley Marl/KRS-ONE album on Koch.
His isn’t a household name, but if you don’t know about K-Def, you better ask somebody—like Marley Marl or Just Blaze. “He got caught up in the whole thing coming up under Marley, so he never really got a lot of the props he deserved,” says fellow New Jerseyan Blaze, “but there was a time when he was the best producer in hip-hop.” Just Blaze – www.groundlifemagazine.com

Documentary “Tocar y Luchar” to Premier at the Prestigious Montreal World Film Festival
The Montréal premier will mark the beginning of the film’s North American tour.
Woodstock, NY — Explorart Films announced today that the North American premier of the memorable documentary “Tocar y Luchar” (”To Play and To Fight”) will be held at the 30th annual meeting of the prestigious Montreal World Film Festival. The documentary was accepted as official selection to the “Documentaries of the World” section of the festival. The Montreal World Film festival will take place between August 24th to September 4th in Montreal, Canada. Tocar y Luchar is a powerful documentary about the Venezuelan Youth Orchestra Network, considered by many to be the most successful youth orchestra system in the world.
“We are delighted to be invited to premier this inspiring documentary at the Montreal Film Festival. We believe Montreal to be the perfect place to initiate the North America tour of “Tocar y Luchar,” said Nestor L. Lopez, vice-president of Explorart and one the producers of the film. Dr. Lopez added, “We hope that this documentary will have a real impact on the status of music education around the world and our participation at the Montreal World Film Festival will greatly facilitate our efforts in disseminating this wonderful story.”
“To Play and To Fight” presents the captivating story of the Venezuelan Youth Orchestra System, an incredible network of hundreds of orchestras formed within most of Venezuela’s towns and villages. Once a modest program designed to expose rural children to the wonders of music, the system has become one of the most important and beautiful social phenomena in modern history. “To Play and To Fight” presents interviews and performances by many of the world’s most renowned musicians including the great tenor Placido Domingo, Claudio Abbado, Sir Simon Rattle, Guiseppe Sinopoli, and Eduardo Mata, as they reflect on the impact of such a far-reaching social project. The documentary also presents the inspirational stories of world class musicians who have been trained by the Venezuelan system, including The Berlin Philharmonic’s youngest player Edicson Ruiz and world class conductor Gustavo Dudamel.
The documentary was produced by Venezuelan production companies Cinema SUR and Explorart Films with support from the Venezuelan National Youth Orchestra and the Venezuelan Autonomous National Center for Cinematography. It was directed by international award winning filmmaker Alberto Arvelo and edited by Explorart’s President Juan Carlos Lopez-Duran. The cinematography was provided by famed Polish/Venezuelan director of photography Cezary Jaworski.
