Phat is the New Skinny
Skinny girls move over and watch out for the Phat girls.
Richmond, VA August 2, 2006 — Did you know that over 65% of the female population wears a size 12 or larger and over half of all U.S. women wear a size 14 or larger? According to American Demographics, 40 million women over size 14 are spending $25 billion a year on clothing. Despite the buying power of plus size women, merchants and designers seem to have just discovered the potential of the plus size fashion market. Big girls like Mo’ Nique, Queen Latifah, Kim Coles, and most recently F.A.T Chance winner Tanisha Malone have taken the country by storm.
New to the Phat girl scene is The Unforgettable Woman. Founder and Director Theresa Flatts, a native New Yorker created this organization because she was unhappy with the retail industry. Ms Flatts was tired of asking that “famous” question. Do you carry plus sizes? She was also noticing that women of size had a lower self esteem and that really bothered her. And so the Unforgettable Woman was created for the forgotten woman
The Mission of The Unforgettable Woman is to empower plus size women by helping them discover and celebrate their unique essence through fashion events, workshops and seminars.
On August 19, 2006 The Unforgettable Woman will present Tropical Divas, a fashion show for the curvy diva. Tropical Divas is a show like no other. Picture hundreds of people joining together with one goal in mind, to celebrate the beauty of plus size women.
Tropical Divas will feature special guest model from Mo’Nique’s F.A.T Chance Sharon Quinn “The Original Runway Diva” and 2006 semifinalist Tiffany Jones.
Tropical Divas will also feature collections from Vdnix, Atlanta Georgia, Diva Day International, Atlanta, Rep Gear, U Announce it, It Looks Good on You Richmond, VA. This event will also include local vendors and a trunk show following the event.
