Robin Trower Headlines Seattle’s Zeptember
Seattle WA — Robin Trower is finally returning to Seattle. www.trowerpower.com — Born on March 9, 1945 in Catford, England, Robin Trower’s career has spanned more than three decades. From 1962 to 1966 he formed various bands in London with minor chart success. In 1967, he joined Procol Harum where he remained until 1972. After going solo in 1973 he found the success that has made him a living legend today.
In 1962 Robin Trower and Gary Brooker formed a group that would come to be known as The Paramounts. The group originally included Chris Copping and a drummer named Mick Brownlee (subsequently replaced by Barry (BJ) Wilson .
Robin Trower: “Our first kick was when the Stones heard us; they dug our music, which was somewhat similar to their own, and they introduced us to their gig circuit, which they were in the process of leaving to do cinema tours and things like that. In fact, the Stones were about the only people who helped us: everyone else we came into contact with was out to rob us, but they even got us on the bill of some of their package shows.”There was also Procol Harum (most famous for their hit, A Whiter Shade of Pale). Brooker had left The Paramounts in 1966 to form Procol Harum, with Trower joining shortly after.
Trower stayed until 1971, but during the last couple of years, his trademark style and sound began to emerge in earnest. His song, Whisky Train from 1970s ‘Home’ stands as one of Procol Harum’s best tunes. It was obvious that Trower was destined for bigger and better things.
After leaving Procol Harum, Trower embarked on his solo career. Armed with his fluid and powerful guitar style, refined during his stint with ‘Procol’, Bringing out such hits and albums like “Bridge Of Sighs” , “Day Of An Eagle” All of his early albums share a tough, explosive style mixed with the trademark ’soft psychedelia’ that made “Robin Trower” a power trio that will forever remain in rock and roll history.
