Shades of Evil
Richard Appleton releases his first book “Shades of Evil” through Lulu.com
Grimsby UK — Richard Appleton has published Shades of Evil, a science-fiction novel, in conjunction with Lulu (www.lulu.com), the world’s fastest-growing provider of print-on-demand books.
When Jemima King receives a letter from a solicitor leaving her a vast fortune she cannot believe her luck. The only catch is that she must move to a mansion house out in the country. She then discovers that the letter was posted to her in 1931 - over forty years before she was born, and so begins a bizarre adventure through time, in which Jemima meets a long lost relative and has to fight an evil which has been trapped for centuries. Jemima, being a fairly “normal” young lady, is suddenly thrown into a bizarre world of corruption, evil and time travel, none of which she is prepared to accept.
This is aimed at the teen and young adult market (15+) as it contains some violence and strong language. It is written in real-time and features historically accurate dates and people.
Richard Appleton had been toying with the various ideas used in Shades of Evil for some time. “I knew what I wanted,” he said, “but somehow there was a vital ingredient missing. Then, one morning, I woke up and the whole story was running through my head; I could see it as though I were watching a film. I sat at my computer and started typing before I forgot it!” After reading through and correcting the anomalies, a particular danger when writing around a central theme of time travel, Richard was ready to send out the manuscript to proof readers. “They gave incredibly positive feedback,” he said, “but as a new author, I wasn’t sure of the route to take.” That was in 2003, but now, at last, the book has been published and is available in hardback.
