San Francisco, CA — The 2006 SF Women’s Film Festival, presented by SINVINO Sparkling made by Crystal Geyser, today announced the line-up for its 2nd Annual Festival, taking place April 19 – 30, 2006. Premieres, features, and short films reflect the vitality of women filmmakers around the world and include more than 60 films, many of which are world premieres. We are very happy to announce our special guests that include award winning actor Danny Glover, Osnat Shurer-Producer of Pixar Animation Studios and local filmmaker Lise Swenson and many more.
“We had a record-number of film submissions this year reflecting the growth of the Festival,” said founder of Scarlett Shepard. “This year’s program includes a wide range of emerging and established talent as well unique voices from around the globe that are so often underrepresented.” Filmmaker, producer and community educator, Scarlett Shepard, founded the first incarnation of the SFWFF on May 15, 2004, while a student at San Francisco State University’s cinema program, Shepard discovered that the curriculum bypassed the contributions of women in cinema. She teamed up with SFSU professors, the SFSU Women’s Center of Associated Students, local award-winning filmmakers and a host of local sponsors to produce the festival.
“This Festival in San Francisco is a necessary step, women directors should no longer be left out or considered a side note in our curriculum, film festivals, film history and the film industry,” said Scarlett. “These women prove that they can make films, which excite and engage every viewer.”
The SFWFF 06’ will take place from April 19 – 30, 2006 at Zeum, El Rio, SF Women’s Building, Parkway and Minna Gallery. Check out ongoing dialogue about Women and film and the latest update on the program at WWW.SFWFF.COM, tickets will be available for purchase on March 31 at WWW.TICKETWEB.COM
