May 18, 2006 — The 2006 Hollywood Black Film Festival (the annual mecca for the Black Hollywood creative community) has invited the critically acclaimed feature film Love Trap to screen in competition for this year’s Best Feature Film Award.
It is noteworthy that the film will come to HBFF having already won seven festivals to date, including four Best Feature Film Awards from other film festivals across the nation. This is the first feature film written, produced and directed by Florida film-maker Frank B. Goodin, II a brilliant storyteller, and great addition to the industry as his film has been nationally recognized as an outstanding example of black independent cinema.
The film screens on Saturday, June 17 at 9:00pm at the Harmony Gold Preview House (7655 Sunset Boulevard).
Several distribution companies have indicated that they will be on hand to take a look at what Film Finance Guru Brenda Z. Doby, Vice President, Senior Account Relationship Manager, Union Bank, Beverly Hills, California praised as a riveting film. She commended the film for its uniqueness, its issues, and the overall storyline. Moreover, Ms. Doby told attendees at the 2005 Houston Black Film Festival Awards Gala, “When I saw the film, I knew I had to make a phone call.” Vanessa Morman, festival founder and executive director stated, “I”m thrilled for the entire cast and crew. It’s a quality piece of work that captivates the audience. I watched in amazement during the screening as they were drawn into the flashback told story. It was so well directed, which explains Mr. Goodin II receiving the Best Director Award.”
Tyler Perry has already demonstrated quite clearly the box-office power of black dramas that balance comedy and spirituality. Love Trap is a much more polished blend of these elements and more. According to Goodin: Love Trap is simply the kind of film we all say we want to see a positive, entertaining black film that’s free of negative stereotypes and full of truth and inspiration. “I”m so excited to see young people doing this type of positive thing as this film which shows a more positive side of our young black men,” said a festival attendee, Mary Eggleston. “Love Trap” blends spirituality, trust and deep messages meant to dispel negative stereotypes about our young black men. It”s excitable. It’s dimensional, It’s about integrity!
Those who have already seen the film at other festivals all attest to the film’s power as consistently noted on several websites, such as http://www.divaskeepingitreal.com/page10.html or http://press.arrivenet.com/entertainment/article.php/662836.html.
