Truly Caribbean Network to host a National Creative Workshop for Singers, Dancers, and Musicians in October
Reuben Rogers, one of the premier jazz bassists in the world will be one of the trainers at the upcoming National Creative Workshop on St. Maarten.
PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten — Singers, dancers, and musicians are the target for the first National Creative Workshop being organized by the non-profit foundation Truly Caribbean Network on St. Maarten.
The National Creative Workshop will take place from October 18 – 21, 2006 at the Belair Community Center and targets artists ages 16 and over.
According to TCN President, Nerissa Golden no event or activities exist on the island that targets semi-professional and professional artists to help them develop their craft and to prepare for long term success in their field.
“There is a need on St. Maarten for our local talent to be exposed to continuous learning opportunities and to access more information and training on how they can market themselves locally and abroad,” explained Golden.
“The National Creative Workshop will do just that. It is an intense four-day program with professional trainers who will give one-on-one technique training, master classes and ensemble sessions for singers and musicians, with a similar program for the dancers. We will also be providing resources and seminars on how creative people can and should market and developing themselves as a brand.”
The workshops will provide learning in the musical genres of jazz and gospel. Trainers include, Reuben Rogers, one of the premier bassists in the jazz world, Peter Martin, Musical Director and pianist for jazz singer Diane Reeves, drummer Dion Parsons, St. Maarten’s Ambassador of Music and vocal coach Anastasia Larmonie, and a Founding Member of the Cayman Dance Company, modern-contemporary dance instructor Susan-Barnes-Periera.
Although preference is being given to local artists, Golden says persons from around the region have expressed an interest in participating. “It definitely shows us that people are still looking for opportunities to grow and learn and the TCN is proud to be a part of that growth. We are only catering for 50 participants at this time, so it is important that persons sign up early. They will also need at least two months to practice the music and vocal arrangements so the deadline is August 30.”
All participants will perform in a closing concert to benefit the Victory Christian Academy school.
The workshop costs US$ 125 and includes all materials for rehearsals. Application forms can be downloaded from www.trulycaribbean.net and more information on the workshop can be received by calling (011) 599-523-3731 or by emailing.
