Virginia Wine Festival Event Date Changed; New Date Kicks Off Virginia Wine Month
The Virginia Wine Festival is changing its traditional dates from August to September 30 and October 1 to kick off the state’s official Wine Month (October).
Alexandria, VA — The Virginia Wine Festival is changing its traditional dates from August to September 30 and October 1 to kick off the state’s official Wine Month (October).
The Virginia Wine Festival is considered to be the granddaddy of wine festivals on the East Coast, started in 1975 by the Vinifera Wine Growers Association (VWGA) to showcase the first wines successfully produced in Virginia. The event has grown dramatically in size and attendance since its debut, which featured three wineries. Now in its 31st year, the Virginia Wine Festival has become a grand Commonwealth tradition, making it the logical launch event for Virginia Wine Month. In addition, the date change avoids the excessive heat that August brings to the national capital region.
VWGA boasts that you can “See Virginia in a Day” at this festival. The event features a grand tasting from many of the commonwealth’s award-winning wineries, gourmet pairing cuisine, seminars and cooking demonstrations, entertainment on a main stage and kids stage, tourism exhibits, and a veritable treasure trove of fine arts and crafts in a fabulous al fresco show.
The event is held close to the Washington DC metropolitan area in Loudoun County Virginia. Advance discount tickets go on sale Saturday, July 15th, with options to purchase directly online at www.virginiawinefestival.org or by contacting the event ticket office at 703-823-1868.
