What Destiny Awaits in Such a Cursed Place as Broadhurst Manor?
“In her hand was a big flashlight. I had to shield my eyes, but she jerked my hand away and pulled me towards her.
“Well, have you learned your lesson? I hope the rats and other critters down here didn’t disturb you much. You’ll have another day down here if you ever make a fool of me again in front of one of my guests. Have I made myself perfectly clear once and for all?”
Not wanting to infuriate her anymore than I already had, I kept my mouth shut and my eyes averted for fear she would extend my stay in this terrible place. I was also certain that she had many, many more ways to make me suffer.”
Denver, CO August 2, 2006 — The Broadhurst Manor Curse is a classic tale, where dark and stormy nights always bring misfortune, and just when you think you have figured out the key to the mystery, you find another plot twist behind a locked door.
When 14-year-old Constance Martin loses her mother and father in a car accident, she is transported to Broadhurst Manor, where she is put in the care of an aunt whom she has never known. Aunt Helen is a nasty woman whose abusiveness toward the girl knows no bounds. The blessing for Constance comes the day she is packed off to a private boarding school. Then one day she receives a phone call from an attorney telling her that her aunt has died and she must return to Broadhurst Manor. When Constance arrives she learns that not only has she inherited the house but all of her aunt’s millions. Into Constance’s life comes love, a disappearance, a murder, and a relative who demands his share of the inheritance—or else. Surely there is a curse at play after all.
As a world traveler, author G. Graham Vago had no trouble recreating the places where her mystery story plays out. Though The Broadhurst Manor Curse begins in a traditional American setting, as it unfolds, it does so against the stunning backdrop of Europe’s elite cities: London, Paris, Vienna, and Zurich.
Vago was born in Michigan then moved to California, where she met her husband, a Hungarian émigré. Repeatedly encouraged by friends to try her hand at writing, she says The Broadhurst Manor Curse came about as a result of sitting down one day and letting it all pour out. The moral to the tale? “No matter how many obstacles life throws on your path, you can always rise above them with courage and an optimistic attitude.” Vago currently is contemplating a sequel.
