Willoughby and Baltic Launches New Marionette Theater
Willoughby and Baltic Gallery in Davis Square, Massachusetts announces the opening of its new marionette theater. Modelled after the marionette theaters found in prague, and utilizing Czech style marionettes, the puppet theater tells stories within themes of science for all ages.
Somerville, MA August 1, 2006 — Willoughby and Baltic Gallery in Somerville, MA launches a new marionette theater that will offer performances for both children and adults on August 1, 2006. Based on marionette theaters of Praque, and using Czech style marionettes, the show will include themes of science, science fiction, politics and opera.
The first show produced by the String Theory Marionettes is called “Frankenfood”, and is the story of unexpected results of genetically modifying foods. The show is a musical, and will feature a twelve piece robotic orchestra pit. In the future, the String Theory Marionettes will perform adult shows as well as family friendly productions.
“We are thrilled to have the only dedicated marionette theater in the Boston area,” said Meredith Garniss, founder of Willoughby and Baltic. “It’s very exciting to be able to expose a new generation to such a beautiful and traditional art form.”
Garniss, an internationally collected painter has loaned her artistic experience to create the marionettes, as well as much of the set design. Painter and Sculptor Adrian Tans constructed the ornate proscenium for the theater.
“Frankenfood” begins August 12, 2006 @ 10:30am. Shows last approximately one hour, and advance ticketing is recommended. General admission is $8.50 per person. For ticketing, please call 1-800-838-3006, or visit http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/5781.
